Job summary

VEG is seeking a Lead Emergency Veterinarian to own clinical excellence, mentor doctors, and champion VEG’s patient-first processes across the hospital. You will lead by example, ensuring the VEG way is applied in every case and supporting your team with resources and encouragement for growth.

You’ll work with the medical director to foster mentorship and learning, develop careers, and sustain a culture of high-quality care for both pets and their families.

Qualifications

• DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree required.
• Minimum 2 years ER experience and critical case management.
• Leadership experience preferred but not required.
• Training in emergency surgery/endoscopy.
• Willingness to lead and perform administrative tasks during off hours.
• Availablity to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Able to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse team environment.

Responsibilities

• Work clinical shifts and provide triage, diagnosis, and treatment plans.
• Coach doctors on medical excellence and VEG Way.
• Support doctor growth and development plans.
• Assist Medical Director during callouts or when opening a new VEG hospital.
• Lead monthly doctor meetings and rounds.
• Create doctor schedules and manage leaves well in advance.
• Address customer medical concerns and complaints.
