Job summary

L3Harris Technologies, located in Herndon, VA, seeks a Lead Software Engineer - Embedded Software to drive Rust adoption on mission-critical embedded systems. You will lead teams, set best practices, and guide software across the SDLC on multi-domain platforms.

The role requires 9+ years in software, 3+ years of leadership, and strong C/C++ with Rust experience. On-site work with 9/80 schedule; travel <10% for onboarding and scrum activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or related field; 9+ years experience, or graduate degree with 7+ years, or 13+ years without a degree.
• At least 3 years of experience leading software development teams.
• At least 5 years of experience with C/C++ development and OO design.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded software development across multiple product lines and product teams.
• Guide adoption of Rust and related patterns, idioms, and tooling.
• Translate requirements into working, maintainable software and architecture.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems teams on interfaces and performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in peer reviews.
• Develop software test plans and documentation; support SDLC activities.
