Job summary

Rivian is seeking an electromagnetic engineer to lead the EM design, modeling, and analysis of high-performance e-machines and actuators. You will develop advanced computational methods, optimization tools, and pipelines to improve fidelity and shorten design cycles, collaborating with Thermal, Mechanical, NVH, Vehicle Integration, and Test labs to ensure reliability and cost targets.

The role requires a PhD in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in e-machine design, and experience with IPM/PM

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electromagnetic design.
• Experience with IPM/PM, high torque and power density machines.
• Proficiency with EM tools such as JMAG, COMSOL, ANSYS Maxwell.
• MATLAB/Simulink for data analysis.
• Understanding of e-machine build and manufacturing processes.
• Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Lead in-house electromagnetic design of e-machines to support Rivian product development plan.
• Determine e-machine electrical and mechanical specifications in support of Rivian product road map.
• Perform electromagnetic analysis, modeling and design of electric machines for Rivian products.
• Develop, verify, and optimize modeling tools and design processes to predict and optimize performance.
• Develop test plans and coordinate with motor control/testing teams to validate electromagnetic and thermal performance.
• Support material databases with in-house testing for active components such as electrical steel and magnets.
• Assist structural/mechanical analysis of motor systems including NVH and durability.
• Conduct and/or support thermal analyses to predict thermal characteristics of electric machines.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers to create 3D models and 2D drawings for release to manufacturing.
• Support motor manufacturing development including material selection and process evaluation.
• Study and implement new electric machine technologies.
