Nexteer Automotive in the United States is seeking an Electromagnetic Engineer to drive the design, modeling, verification, and validation of high power electric motor systems for vehicle electrification. You will coordinate multi-disciplinary projects and advance electromagnetics throughout research to production, including sensors and drive controls.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of brushless machines: PM, SRM, IM.
  • EM finite element analysis, modeling, sizing, calibration.
  • Design/analysis of electric machines and sensors for vehicle systems (inverters, battery).
  • Strong computer/math skills; knowledge of simulation tools (finite elements & scripting).
  • Competency in electronics, electromagnetics, electromechanical fields.
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (propulsion).
  • Excellent problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques.
  • Organized, documentation-focused.
  • Time-management & multi-activity support.
  • Strong work ethic and meetings coordination.
  • Effective worldwide communication; teamwork across disciplines.
  • MS Office proficiency (Excel/Word/PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of motor sensing subsystems (position, current).
  • Ability to read screens for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • EM analysis, modeling and design of electric machines, actuators, and sensors for EV propulsion.
  • Testing and validation of motors and sensors against requirements.
  • Design and implement features to minimize losses and maximize performance.
  • Flow down requirements and create system/subsystem specifications.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects on motors and machines.
  • Enforce technology development process from research to production.
  • Calibrate/test/validate motor requirements; diagnose deficiencies.
  • Integrate design elements across disciplines.
  • Stay updated on new motor tech developments and trends.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Travel between Auburn Hills and Saginaw facilities.
