Job summary

Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore seeks a Journeyman Electrician to maintain, install and repair electrical/pneumatic systems and plan related work. This position leads a small team, trains apprentices and supports the Facilities department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
• Five years of directly related experience.
• Certification / License

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and maintenance on electrical systems to ensure safety and functionality.
• Reads and interprets complex schematic and construction drawings, service manuals and other technical documents.
• Follows instructions provided by blueprints, drawings, written materials, work orders and oral instructions.
• Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and resolves routine and complex electrical equipment problems and component conditions.
• Adhere to all applicable requirements, including safety standards and local codes.
• Communicate with Facilities leadership, other related trades, apprentices and coworkers effectively to promote efficiency.
• Trains peer and lower level positions as directed by supervisor, based on the guidelines of the JHU Apprenticeship program.
• Plans and estimates the materials and labor required to perform demand work and construction projects.
• Actively engage Electrical Maintenance Workers into skills-based training activities to build their knowledge and effectively train them for growing skills independence.
