Job summary

Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City seeks an Electrician 2 to perform routine electrical repairs, including low and high voltage components, lighting and control systems. Lead duties may involve supervising an inmate crew and ensuring security, with responsibilities for documentation and material procurement.

Required completion of an electrician apprenticeship with journey-level experience or an equivalent education/experience combination.

Qualifications

Completion of an electrician apprenticeship followed by one year journey-level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in a correctional setting is preferred but not required.
Ability to lead workers and enforce security procedures for inmates and staff.

Responsibilities

Respond to repair orders; establish priority of repairs; diagnose problems using appropriate tools and test equipment; estimate costs and procure materials.
Implement a preventive maintenance schedule; perform routine inspections, cleaning, servicing and minor repairs to prevent malfunctions.
Troubleshoot and repair circuit breakers, transformers, generators, HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, motors and lighting.
Install or remove wiring, panels, lighting, switches and receptacles in accordance with code; study blueprints; calculate loads; design circuits; update blueprints.
Provide training and direction to maintenance staff and assist contractors in project work.
