Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Kansas City (MO) office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 10+ years of experience to join their Power Generation team. The role focuses on design and delivery of power generation and heavy industrial facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, energy storage, and decarbonization projects.

The candidate will work on multi-discipline and electrical-focused projects, including grid interconnections, transformers, switchgear, and BESS systems, and will lead efforts for

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant engineering design experience in Power Generation.
  • Experience with simple cycle, combined cycle plants using natural gas, fuel oil, and diesel and/or coal-fired generation is preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in Electrical Engineering or a related degree.
  • Strong technical focus; GT Pro or similar gas power modelling software helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates, project work plans, and schedules with independent judgment.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and external partners.
  • Lead electrical engineering efforts for natural gas and coal-fired power generation projects.
  • Design and support Air Quality Control and Effluent Limitation Guidelines systems.
  • Perform piping system design, including sizing, materials, routing, and supports.
  • Develop and review P&IDs to accurately represent systems.
  • Conduct electrical equipment condition assessments and lifecycle cost analyses.
  • Design plumbing systems for sanitary and potable water applications.
  • Engineer pumping and piping systems for fluids and gases; select tanks and vessels.
  • Coordinate instrumentation selection and placement for pumps, tanks, and vessels.
