Job summary

YWCA Hartford Region is seeking a Head Teacher for the Early Learning Center to provide a safe, supportive environment and plan age-appropriate programs that promote the whole-child development. You will assist the Site Manager in supervising and mentoring assistant teachers and volunteers.

Responsibilities include curriculum delivery, classroom management, staff coaching, and ensuring compliance with CACFP, OEC, and licensing standards.

Qualifications

• Must meet OEC degree requirements or CDA certification with 12 credits in Early Learning.
• Connecticut Head Teacher Certificate and CPR/First Aid cert or ability to obtain within 2 months.
• At least 1 year of work experience in an educational setting with children.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum planning and child development/psychology.
• Pass OEC and criminal background checks.
• Must have transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of insurance.

Responsibilities

• Plans and manages delivery of age-appropriate programs fostering physical, emotional, and intellectual development.
• Implements support plans and coaches staff in delivering plans.
• Communicates curriculum objectives and provides feedback to staff.
• Identifies children needing extra support and differentiates instruction.
• Ensures program quality, safety, and compliance with licensing and accreditation requirements.
• Monitors staffing, facilities, and materials to meet CACFP, OEC, and CDC/School Readiness criteria.
• Provides mentoring to staff and maintains communication with parents; documents incidents within 24 hours.
• Maintains records and ensures confidentiality and compliance with policy.
