Job summary

YWCA Hartford Region seeks a Head Teacher for its Early Learning Center to create a safe, engaging environment and oversee age-appropriate activities fostering development across physical, emotional, cognitive, and social domains.

The Head Teacher will supervise and mentor assistant teachers and volunteers, ensuring compliance with OEC/NAEYC standards and collaborating with families to support each child’s progress.

Qualifications

• Must meet OEC degree/certification requirements for Head Teacher.
• CDA certification with 12 credits in Early Learning or plan to meet OEC requirements.
• Connecticut OEC Head Teacher Certification.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within two months of employment.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience in an educational setting with children.
• Pass OEC and criminal background checks successfully.
• Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance.

Responsibilities

• Plans and delivers age-appropriate programs that foster physical, emotional, and intellectual development.
• Implements support plans and coaches staff in implementing plans.
• Mentors and mentors staff to deliver developmentally appropriate lessons and environments.
• Communicates with parents and collaborates to address concerns and progress.
• Ensures compliance with OEC/NAEYC accreditation criteria, health and safety standards, and licensing requirements.
• Documents children’s progress and reports incidents within 24 hours.
• Maintains positive relationships with parents, students, staff, and community.
