Job summary

Basic Commerce & Industries, Inc. is seeking a full-time Systems Engineer for DoD weapon system safety programs at Dahlgren, VA. You will analyze safety risks and develop safety products, while leading safety engineers and coordinating with Navy/Joint programs.

The role requires 10+ years in DoD system safety for weapon programs or 15 years combined Navy/public/private sector experience, plus MIL-STD 882 knowledge and MS Office proficiency. US citizenship required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business or technical discipline or military operational experience at E6+.
• 10+ years of general operational systems engineering experience for DoD weapon programs.
• 2 years of DoD systems engineering experience focusing on MIL-STD 882 safety tasks.
• Experience developing and coordinating presentations.
• Safety experience in programs like Aegis, ABMD, SSDS, IAMD, NIFC-CA, DDG-1000, LCS or Coast Guard safety areas.
• Two years’ experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical, operational and engineering support for safety analyses and risk assessments.
• Develop safety products to inform leadership and remediation strategies.
• Lead safety engineers and provide training/mentoring.
• Maintain currency on Navy/Joint combat and weapon systems.
• Understand and address safety issues.
• Participate in safety and engineering reviews.
• Prepare risk assessment studies and analyses for boards including WSESRB.
• Develop and analyze System Safety and Safety Management Plans.
• Analyze safety test documentation/plans.
