Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories seeks a Distributed Systems Architect / Systems Engineering Lead on the Pickle Research Campus to design mission‑critical distributed systems spanning multiple nodes and sites.

You will elicit requirements, guide architecture and decomposition, mentor engineers, and collaborate with stakeholders throughout the lifecycle, all while ensuring performance and reliability in mission‑critical environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science, applied science, or engineering.
• Three years of relevant work experience in distributed, large-scale or real-time systems.
• Experience with fault tolerance, high availability, and multi-site scalability.
• Experience with distributed systems concepts and APIs/interfaces.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Elicit system scope and requirements from stakeholders for designs.
• Lead architecture and design of distributed systems across nodes/sites.
• Communicate processes, results, and documentation to stakeholders.
• Participate in Agile backlog management and project decomposition.
• Mentor junior staff and coordinate lifecycle activities.
