Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories invites applications for a Software Engineering Scientist position on the Pickle Research Campus in Austin, TX. The role focuses on developing Linux-based software for networked and sonar systems, with emphasis on high-performance C++ and distributed architectures.

The successful candidate will design, implement and verify software, contribute to test automation, and work within Agile/CI-CD processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
• Three years of software development experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Proficiency in C++ software development in Linux.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, patterns, and algorithms.
• Experience with Linux and open source tools for development, testing, version control and documentation.
• Experience with multi-threaded software development and debugging.
• Experience with distributed software models and microservices.
• Experience with TCP/IP sockets in Linux.
• Experience troubleshooting complex software systems.
• Working-level understanding of Linux OS and administration.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance, systems-based distributed software in C++ for Linux.
• Create distributed software that runs in containerized and orchestrated environments.
• Incrementally test, troubleshoot and verify software and performance.
• Develop test automation for unit and system tests in line with Agile and CI/CD.
• Document design and implementation clearly and address issues.
• Perform other related functions as assigned.
