Job summary

First Student is hiring a Lead Diesel Technician for our shop in Lockport, LA. This full-time day shift role focuses on leading preventive maintenance, developing technicians, and maintaining safe, reliable school buses.

Eligible candidates have 5+ years in diesel/auto maintenance or technical schooling, and experience in a lead or supervisory role is preferred. CDL training is provided; ASE testing can boost earnings. Benefits and career progression are offered across the network.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of diesel/auto maintenance experience or technical school education.
• Previous lead technician, supervisor, or management experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license; willing to obtain CDL while employed – paid training provided.
• Strong computer skills and a mechanic’s tool set.
• ASE certifications are preferred; subject to DOT drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs; perform road tests when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and HVAC systems for preventive/repair maintenance.
• Supervise shop technicians, conduct daily huddles, training, performance evaluations, and assist with hiring decisions.
• Manage inventory control, approve expenses within scope, schedule fleet maintenance, ensure safety compliance.
• Conduct inspections, monitor performance, and coordinate with management on status and budgets.
