Job summary

First Student, Inc. is hiring a Lead Diesel Technician to manage the Richmond shop’s preventive maintenance program and develop technicians across a nationwide network of locations.

You will lead diagnostics, ensure safety and reliability, and support ongoing training and certification efforts. The role emphasizes hands-on leadership, budget awareness, and collaboration with management to improve fleet uptime.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of diesel or automotive maintenance experience or technical school education.
• Previous lead technician or supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license; willing to obtain CDL with company training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs; perform road tests when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Supervise shop technicians; conduct daily huddles, training, and performance evaluations.
• Manage inventory, approve expenses, schedule fleet maintenance, and ensure safety compliance.
• Conduct inspections, monitor performance, and adhere to standards.
• Collaborate with management on maintenance status, budgets, and special projects.
• Support ASE certification program.
