Job summary

First Student in West Point, MS is hiring a Lead Diesel Technician to lead the preventive maintenance program and develop technicians while keeping our fleet safe and reliable. This role involves overseeing diagnostics, supervising shop staff, and coordinating maintenance within budgets.

The position requires 5+ years in diesel or automotive maintenance, valid license, and willingness to pursue CDL training.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance & repair experience or technical school education.
• Leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required; willingness to obtain CDL with company training.
• Strong computer skills.
• Possess a mechanic's tool set.
• ASE certifications are preferred.
• Position is subject to DOT drug testing per 49 CFR Part 40.

Responsibilities

• Lead preventive maintenance program and technician development to improve shop efficiency.
• Oversee complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs; conduct road tests when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical and HVAC.
• Supervise shop technicians, conduct daily huddles, training and evaluations.
• Manage inventory, approve expenses, schedule fleet maintenance, ensure safety compliance.
• Coordinate with management on maintenance status, budgets and special projects.
• Participate in ASE certification programs.
• Perform hands-on work as needed.
