Job summary

First Student, Inc. is hiring a Lead Diesel Technician to oversee our New Orleans shop. You will lead preventive maintenance, mentor technicians, and drive efficiency and safety across fleets.

The role requires 5+ years in diesel/auto maintenance or technical schooling, with leadership experience preferred. Expect a day-shift, CDL training potential, and strong benefits as part of a large national transportation family.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of diesel or automotive maintenance & repair experience or technical school education.
• Previous lead technician or supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license; willingness to obtain CDL with company training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs; perform road tests when needed.
• Maintain advanced knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Supervise shop technicians; conduct daily huddles, training, performance evaluations, and assist with hiring decisions.
• Manage inventory control; approve expenses; schedule fleet maintenance; ensure safety compliance.
