Job summary

Stepp’s Towing & Heavy Transport in Tampa Bay area is seeking a Lead Fleet Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy trucks and equipment with strong diagnostics and leadership skills. You will mentor junior mechanics and help manage workflow to ensure safe, reliable operations.

The role requires owning your tools, CDL preferred, and a clean driving record. Expect a Monday–Friday schedule with after-hours emergencies, competitive hourly pay, and growth opportunities within a family-owned

Qualifications

Prior experience as a Fleet Diesel Mechanic is required.
Diagnostics experience is a must.
Must have your own tools.
Clean driving record for the past 3 years.
Must pass a background check and drug test.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel vehicles (heavy trucks and equipment).
Troubleshoot and resolve engine, transmission, clutch, suspension, steering issues, and more.
Oversee and mentor team members; assist with scheduling and workflow management.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes.
Inspect vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operation.
Test drive vehicles and operate manual transmissions.
Accurately document issues found and repair steps taken.
Ensure all work meets safety and company standards.
