Job summary

Fathom5 is seeking a hands-on Lead Design Engineer to drive gearbox prototype development in Austin, TX. You will perform CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, and assembly while coordinating with software and electrical teams to integrate new technologies into Tesar Actuators.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of engineering experience, a mechanical/ aerospace/civil background, and a proven ability to deliver high-quality prototypes in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

Qualifications

• Design knowledge: working knowledge of machine detailing and design.
• Proven innovation: inventor on a US patent or leading a novel gearbox project.
• Proficiency with CAD tools for design and prototyping.
• Proficiency with shop/assembly tools to deliver quality prototypes.
• Strong written and verbal communication of technical findings.
• Ability to learn new technology quickly and work in a team.
• Willingness to work long hours at events and travel to support customers.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers with CAD modeling, prototyping and testing.
• Design, procure, and/or print machine components including prime movers and machined parts.
• Support engineering team in the design of industrial automation solutions.
• Prepare documentation of key design decisions and changes.
• Work with software and electrical teams to integrate new technologies.
• Translate client desires into tangible deliverables and test products.
• Assemble hardware according to specifications and ensure on-time delivery.
• Contribute to meetings, stand-ups and demos; learn product lines and suggest improvements.
• Collaborate to merge physical assembly with hardware and software integration.
