Job summary

9 Mothers Corporation is hiring a Senior Mechatronics Engineer focused on actuation and drivetrain ownership. You will own motors, gearboxes, and drives from torque calculations to production release, working across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and robotics teams.

The role requires 10+ years in mechatronics, hands-on servo tuning, gearbox fluency, and strong CAD skills; U.S. citizenship is required. Austin, TX onsite with aggressive field-testing expectations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in mechatronics or motion-system engineering with a track record of shipping servo-driven products.
• Hands-on selection, commissioning and tuning of BLDC/PMSM servo systems: field-oriented control, current/velocity/position loops, encoder and resolver feedback.

Responsibilities

• Size and select motors and drive budgets with margins and math.
• Design the drivetrain from rotor to load, including bearings, seals and lubrication.
• Characterize systems with torque, back-EMF, inductance and efficiency.
• Tune current, velocity and position loops for high-bandwidth tracking.
• Engineer for abuse: shock, vibration, temperature extremes; lead failure analysis.
• Own the supply chain: qualify vendors, write specs, manage second sources and lead times.
• Bridge mechanical, electrical and firmware teams; triage failures at hardware-software boundary.
• Document derating curves, tuning procedures and acceptance tests.
