Job summary

The Lead Data Engineer at the American Red Cross will join the Enterprise Data Analytics team to modernize our data architecture and reporting capabilities. You will design and implement scalable data pipelines, maintain the data warehouse, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams across the organization.

This 100% remote role supports an East Coast schedule with occasional in-person meetings.

Qualifications

• 4-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical field.
• 10 years of relevant work experience in data engineering, BI or related field.
• Experience with a variety of database technologies and data warehouse schema design patterns (snowflake and star).
• Experience with cloud-based databases, specifically AWS technologies (e.g., Redshift, RDS, S3, EC2, EKS).
• Advanced experience using SQL queries and optimizing SQL in large-scale datasets.
• Proficient in Python; DBT is a plus.
• Experience creating ETL/ELT jobs and using Agile methodologies.
• DevOps practices and tools (Git, Artifactory).
• Experience integrating across multiple systems and APIs.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with analytics and business teams to improve data models for BI tools.
• Build scalable solutions aligned to data governance and architectural roadmap.
• Design, develop and test data integration solutions; write and document tests.
• Manage automated deployments using Git pipelines with version control.
• Collaborate across teams to streamline deployment workflows and troubleshoot pipelines.
• Perform data analysis to troubleshoot data issues and implement quality framework.
• Serve as tech lead, mentoring teammates through code reviews and pair programming.
