Job summary

Gifthealth Inc. is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to own one or more data platform domains, set long-term direction, and lead a small team of engineers. You will work 65% hands-on on Snowflake-based workloads, dbt transformations, and data feeds, ensuring HIPAA-compliant access controls and strong data quality practices.

Columbus, OH or remote (US) options available. This role requires expert SQL/Python, dbt at scale, and production ownership with vendors and roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Production ownership of a cloud data warehouse; Snowflake experience preferred.
• Expert-level SQL and Python, including troubleshooting complex SQL and dbt models.
• dbt at scale with incremental models, testing, CI, and project structure.
• Production experience with an orchestration tool (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect).
• Experience owning a platform area over multiple years and setting its direction.
• At least 1 year of direct people management experience.
• Experience implementing automated data quality testing and alerting.
• Ability to communicate data issues, business impact, and timelines to client-facing teams.
• Working knowledge of healthcare data, PHI, and HIPAA requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership and roadmapping with vendor cost analysis.

Responsibilities

• Own one or more data-domain areas within the platform and set long-term direction.
• Lead and manage a team of senior and mid-level data engineers (65% hands-on).
• Develop 12–18 month roadmaps for assigned domains and ensure alignment with leadership.
• Establish coding standards, code reviews, and domain practices.
• Maintain testing, monitoring, and reconciliation for client data feeds.
• Track domain performance and incident response with leadership.
• Design a data quality framework with tests, alerts, and metrics.
• Implement data access controls meeting HIPAA/BAA requirements.
