Job summary

ABB is seeking a highly skilled Data Center Sr. PLC Technician to provide independent technical leadership for pre-startup, startup, commissioning, and maintenance of paralleling switchgear and controls in mission-critical power applications across the United States.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of field experience, or an associate/bachelor degree with 5+ years in a related field.
• Experience leading startup, commissioning, and energization activities on complex projects.
• Strong ability to read electrical/control drawings and apply engineering methods in the field.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and execute field assignments involving Paralleling Switchgear and PLC/Relay transfer schemes during pre-startup, startup, commissioning and maintenance.
• Lead testing of emergency/standby power systems including transfer sequences and paralleling.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, protective relays, PLCs, HMIs, and communications.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and modifications of PLC ladder logic, I/O, and ACS parameters.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus, PLC-to-PLC, remote PLC, PLC-to-ACS, and BMS/SCADA communications.
• Interpret drawings and commissioning procedures; coordinate on-site technical execution and risk management.
• Direct and mentor junior field engineers and technicians; provide coaching on safe execution and customer communications.
• Act as senior escalation resource for remote/on-site troubleshooting and emergency response.
• Prepare field service reports, startup checklists, redlines, test docs, backups, and customer updates.
• Protect assets, manage costs, and identify opportunities to improve quality and delivery.
• Build customer relationships by translating technical findings into actionable plans.
