Job summary

ABB is seeking a Data Center Sr. PLC Technician to lead pre-startup, startup, commissioning, modification, and maintenance of paralleling switchgear and controls in mission-critical power applications.

Remote in the US with nationwide travel, you will guide junior resources and serve as a technical interface for customers and project teams. The role demands strong leadership, hands-on startup experience, and the ability to coordinate complex field activities while ensuring safety and quality on

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7+ years in the field, or an associate/bachelor degree with 5+ years.
• Ability to read, interpret, and redline complex electrical and control drawings and apply approved engineering methods.
• Experience leading startup/commissioning activities and directing multi-person site teams.
• Willingness to travel extensively within the United States to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute complex field assignments involving Paralleling Switchgear and PLC/Relay transfers.
• Lead testing of emergency/standby power systems including transfers and baseload.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, PLCs, HMIs, and communications.
• Perform advanced PLC ladder logic troubleshooting and modifications under change control.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus, PLC-to-PLC, remote PLC, and SCADA communications.
• Interpret one-line diagrams and commissioning procedures for field work.
• Lead on-site execution, coordinate daily work, manage punch lists, ensure on-time delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and serve as escalation resource.
• Complete field service reports, startup checklists, and status updates.
