Job summary

Virginia Beach Schools is seeking an experienced custodial supervisor to oversee cleaning and maintenance of school facilities and surrounding grounds. The role includes training staff, ensuring safe operations, and coordinating with school teams.

The position requires GED or high school completion and considerable custodial experience, with a preference for a high school diploma. Regular attendance is expected, with duties including event setup and security checks.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to supervise subordinate staff.
• Ability to read and understand English.

Responsibilities

• May serve as the head custodian in an elementary school or the head night custodian in a middle or high school.
• Supervise custodial workers; cleaning school building interiors; maintaining school grounds.
• Make sure doors are always locked and secured; clean classrooms, carpets, cafeteria, restrooms, hallways; maintain school grounds; accept deliveries.
• Work with school approved groups for banquet setup and other special events.
• Serve as school representative with Fire Marshal and sprinkler systems inspections.
• Clean carpets, change light bulbs, inspect building.
• Assign special duties to other custodial staff as required.
• Check restrooms, main office, and heating/AC.
• Clean the restrooms, cafeteria, hallways and classrooms to include windows, furniture, walls, and floors.
• Set up and break-down for special events.
• Dump trash from all classrooms and office space.
• Clean Gym area and water fountains; perform related work as required.
