Barnes & Thornburg LLP in Indianapolis seeks a highly qualified Counsel to lead and manage all aspects of complex product liability, toxic tort, and mass tort settlements from initial negotiations through final claim resolution.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of mass tort experience, strong drafting and negotiation skills, and familiarity with case management and AI-enabled review platforms. This role requires coordinating teams and ensuring settlements comply with legal requirements.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active and in good standing with the local state Bar, or eligible to waive in.
• Minimum of 8 years of significant mass tort experience, including at least 3 years in law firm litigation.
• Experience in claims resolution, preferably with pharmaceutical/medical devices/consumer products.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple teams and work streams.
• Familiarity with matter management systems and claims platforms; AI-enabled claim review preferred.
• Experience drafting settlement documents and negotiating settlements.
• Strong problem solving and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support settlement negotiations in complex product liability, mass tort, toxic tort, and consumer product litigation matters.
• Help develop settlement structures and eligibility criteria.
• Serve as primary legal and operations lead for settlements, ensuring efficient and compliant execution.
• Draft, review, and finalize all settlement documents with plaintiffs’ counsel.
• Manage teams of nurse paralegals and other attorneys in claims review.
• Perform data analysis on claims to identify trends and outcomes.
• Oversee all aspects of settlement implementation and claims administration.
