Job summary

West Virginia is seeking experienced Correctional Officers to serve as lead workers responsible for planning, assigning and reviewing the work of other officers to ensure facility security and the smooth operation of specialized posts or units.

Positions include responsibilities such as training, post orders adherence, offender supervision, counts, searches and incident reporting, with emphasis on safety and compliance with state regulations. Comprehensive selection criteria apply.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of correctional security, treatment and support program operations.
• Knowledge of rules, regulations and state law.
• Ability to lead subordinate staff and offender activities and work details.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct orientation and/or on-the-job training of Correctional Officers.
• Read and implement training materials, post orders and regulations.
• Provide guidance to subordinate officers and monitor performance.
• Conduct offender counts, escort/transport security and contraband searches.
• Maintain public safety and enforce state law; report violations.
