Job summary

City of Peekskill is seeking a qualified individual to prepare, cook, and serve food in large quantities for the Nutrition/Seniors program. The role includes supervising assistants, training staff, and ensuring proper sanitation and inventory control in a municipal kitchen.

Responsibilities include following menus and dietary restrictions, inspecting equipment, and coordinating supplies for high-volume daily service to facility patrons, typically more than 200 meals per day.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years’ experience in large-scale food prep and serving.
• Experience in prep/cooking for more than 200 meals daily.
• Ability to supervise one or more workers in meal preparation.
• Substitution: 30 credits toward an Associate’s Degree may replace up to 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Clean, cut, and cook meat, fish, or poultry; cook per menus and portions.
• Apportion and serve food to facility patrons.
• Direct activities of workers assisting in meal preparation.
• Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and all cooking/serving equipment.
• Take inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Train new employees.
• Monitor use of government food commodities to ensure proper procedures.
• Requisition food supplies and equipment based on future needs.
