Job summary

North Point Technology in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking an experienced Controls / MES Engineer to lead a ground-up automation build for a major auto manufacturer in Warren, MI. You will design, program, integrate, and commission Rockwell PLCs, Ignition HMI/SCADA, and PLC-to-MES interfaces.

The role focuses on development from design through production launch, with hands-on experience building controls systems rather than maintenance support.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/GuardLogix and Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000.
• Experience writing new PLC programs for equipment, stations, or production lines from scratch.
• Hands-on experience with Inductive Automation Ignition.
• Experience integrating PLCs with MES or manufacturing information systems.
• Understanding of work-order validation, traceability, recipes, production reporting, and serial-number tracking.
• Experience commissioning automated manufacturing equipment.
• Experience in automotive or high-volume discrete manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Allen-Bradley PLC programs from the ground up using RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000.
• Develop PLC architecture including ladder logic, tag structures, UDTs, AOIs, sequencing, diagnostics, alarms, and interfaces.
• Design and build Ignition HMI/SCADA applications, including screens, tags, scripting, alarms, and configurations.
• Develop and implement PLC to MES communication and transaction logic.
• Support work-order verification, traceability, recipe/model management, and production reporting.
• Integrate barcode scanners, RFID systems, and Zebra printers; develop ZPL code.
• Perform startup, debugging, FAT/SAT, and production launch activities; troubleshoot issues.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, IT/MES, equipment integrators, and plant personnel.
