Job summary

sonnen US seeks a Controls Engineer (Specialist) to own control design for residential and commercial battery inverters. You’ll run model-based design in MATLAB/Simulink, implement on TI C2000 MCUs, and validate via HIL and real hardware. Expect hands-on firmware work and cross-team collaboration.

You will lead loop design for DC/DC and DC/AC stages, implement grid-support features, and coordinate startup, transfer, faults, and shutdown sequences in a high-voltage lab environment.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in Electrical Engineering with a focus on control systems.

Responsibilities

• DC/DC control: design current and voltage loops for bidirectional battery converters.
• DC/AC control: design inverter control for single- and three-phase systems.
• Grid functions: implement grid-support and protection features per IEEE 1547/UL 1741.
• System coordination: define supervisory state machine across stages and faults.
• Modeling: build plant models in MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS/Simscape; tune loops.
• Embedded implementation: implement control on TI C2000 MCUs; hand-written C or Embedded Coder.
• Verification: Simulink/SIL, HIL, and real inverter hardware verification.
• Measure performance and document results.
• Debugging and support: root-cause field/lab issues; assist certification.
• Documentation and mentoring: write specs and review designs.
