Job summary

Sage Bionetworks seeks an Associate Director, Computational Biology to lead a multidisciplinary team focused on applied scientific research, biomedical data stewardship, and community engagement around Sage’s data assets.

You will set scientific direction, data standards, and engagement practices to ensure FAIR data are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable and trusted by the research community.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in a relevant scientific, data, or informatics discipline
• Advanced technical and domain expertise in data stewardship, applied analysis, and community-building, rather than an independent publication-focused research program
• 8+ years of progressive experience in scientific research, biomedical data management, data governance, or similar
• Experience leading multi-institutional collaborations and consortia
• 3+ years of managing, mentoring, and developing data managers, computational biologists, or community engagement professionals
• Track record of securing research funding (NIH or comparable)

Responsibilities

• Lead Biomedical Data Science & Stewardship: apply statistical, bioinformatic, and computational biology methods to large-scale data
• Oversee data curation, organization, and lifecycle management per FAIR principles
• Partner with Privacy and Compliance to inform data governance and access models
• Champion FAIR principles and GA4GH standards for data sharing
• Lead harmonization of multi-source datasets for cross-study analysis
• Identify and manage data governance, privacy, and compliance risks
• Build and sustain a community of internal and external researchers
• Collaborate with external scientists and consortium partners
• Mentor team members toward greater independence and technical leadership
• Drive funding strategies to support data infrastructure and programs
• Continuously improve data stewardship and community capabilities
