Job summary

Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is seeking a Supervisory Environmental Compliance Specialist to lead the Baltimore Region within the Lead Compliance and Enforcement Division. The role includes mentoring staff, conducting inspections, reviewing enforcement actions, and coordinating investigations related to elevated blood lead levels.

The position requires guiding a team, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, and producing regular program reports for the Division Chief.

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance across multiple areas (water, air, waste, mining etc.).
• State and federal environmental laws and regulations knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor Environmental Compliance Specialists in investigations and inspections.
• Review enforcement actions and approve notices, referrals, and disposition recommendations.
• Draft correspondence and respond to inquiries from regulators, the public, and partners.
• Oversee program alignment and generate monthly/quarterly reports to leadership.
