Job summary

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) seeks a supervisory lead for the Lead Poisoning Prevention Program in the Baltimore region. The Section Head will supervise Environmental Compliance Specialists, oversee investigations, review enforcement actions, and support coordination with the Division Chief.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in environmental regulatory compliance, leadership, and a track record of managing regulatory inspections, case reviews, and reporting

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance across multiple domains.
• Experience in leadership or supervision of environmental compliance staff is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspections and staff guidance: conducts site inspections and trains Environmental Compliance Specialists; testifies at hearings as needed.
• Enforcement and case review: reviews files and approves enforcement actions and dispositions before submitting to Division Chief.
• Correspondence: drafts responses to inquiries and communications with regulated entities and the public.
• Program oversight and reporting: oversees protocols; generates monthly and quarterly reports for Division Chief and Medical Case Manager.
• Personnel management: full supervisory authority including hiring, reclassification plans, professional development, leave and timesheet approval.
