This position is responsible for leading the testing and commissioning of electrical equipment within an electrical substation or generator plant. Responsibilities include:
- Performing and directing all aspects of electrical testing, including protection relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and other substation equipment.
- Training new engineers/technicians in relay testing, equipment testing, and substation commissioning.
- Reviewing specifications and engineering drawings to understand substation functionality.
- Witnessing or performing critical tests such as DC Functional Trip Testing.
- Directing crews during critical work junctures, including final commissioning and startup.
- Developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, providing scheduling, and meeting financial requirements.
- Managing resources and services for electrical equipment installation.
- Demonstrating safety consciousness and maintaining all service and test equipment in good condition.
- Developing testing documentation, training procedures, and maintaining project records.
- Possessing knowledge of programming and testing protection relays from various manufacturers.
- Understanding system operation through elementary diagrams and developing testing procedures.
- Acting as technical lead on projects and guiding lower-level engineers/technicians.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or engineering technology; BSEE or BSEET preferred.
- 7-10 years of relevant experience, including:
- Understanding of three-phase power systems and protection/control schemes.
- Experience with relay test sets and equipment testing.
- Leadership experience in testing and commissioning substations.
- Knowledge of SCADA, RTU, DFR systems, and AutoCAD is desirable.
- Ability to travel up to 25% and possess a valid driver’s license.
