This position is responsible for leading the testing and commissioning of electrical equipment within an electrical substation or generator plant. Responsibilities include:

Major Responsibilities:
  • Review specifications and engineering drawings to understand the purpose and functionality of the substation
  • Directly witness or perform critical tests such as DC Functional Trip Testing before energization and in-service
  • Direct crews during critical work junctures (final commissioning and startup)
  • Perform electrical testing including P&C control equipment
  • Service newly designed and experimental equipment, building customer confidence
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, manage scheduling and meet financial goals
  • Manage resources and services for electrical equipment installation
  • Prioritize safety in all equipment handling and procedures
  • Maintain all service and testing equipment in good condition and inventory
  • Develop testing documentation, training procedures, and maintain project records
  • Possess knowledge of programming and testing protection relays from GE, SEL, ALSTOM, SCHNEIDER, SIEMENS, and ABB, including macro development for relay testing
  • Understand electrical diagrams and develop testing procedures accordingly
  • Act as technical lead on projects, guiding engineers and technicians
Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or engineering technology; BSEE or BSEET preferred

Experience: 7-10 years in power systems, protection schemes, relay testing, equipment testing, SCADA, RTU, DFR systems, AutoCAD, with up to 25% travel. Valid driver’s license required.

Physical and Working Conditions:

Includes exposure to various environmental conditions, hazards, and extended hours as needed.
