Job summary

California Heating (BESC, Inc.) seeks an experienced Commercial Journeyman Plumber to lead hydronic and heat pump retrofit projects for hotels, schools, multi-family residences and commercial facilities, replacing legacy gas boilers with state-of-the-art HPWH plant systems.

On site you will be the technical lead, ensure uninterrupted hot water service, and communicate with facility managers, project supervisors and engineers to minimize downtime during critical changeovers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in commercial plumbing and/or commercial hydronics.
• Valid Journeyman Plumber license (or equivalent state credentials).
• Proficiency in brazing and ProPress fitting techniques on copper piping up to 2”.
• Strong working knowledge of hydronic heating, boiler loops, pumps, expansion tanks, and commercial water heating distribution.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills—able to interface confidently with commercial clients, engineers, and internal dispatch teams under deadline-driven conditions.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead retrofit, assembly, and integration of commercial heat pump water heaters and related components.
• Execute brazing, soldering, and ProPress connections on copper piping up to 2”.
• Safely decommission legacy gas boilers and reroute piping for HPWH systems.
• Provide clear updates to facility managers, hotel operators, and project supervisors to minimize downtime.
• Ensure installations meet local codes, manufacturer specs, and OSHA safety guidelines.
• Perform system flushing, testing, balancing, and initial commissioning of DHW and hydronic loops.
