Job summary

J. Thomas Property Services in Maryland is seeking a Commercial Construction Superintendent to oversee daily field operations across multiple active sites.

You will direct crews, coordinate onsite activities, maintain project schedules, and ensure quality and safety standards are met. The role requires 4+ years in commercial construction, strong leadership, and the ability to work hands-on when needed to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a construction superintendent or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods and practices.
• Experience managing multiple active jobsites and coordinating crews.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel between jobsites within ~60 miles of Annapolis, MD.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans and specs.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations across multiple active commercial construction jobsites.
• Schedule, direct, and coordinate onsite crews to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements.
• Lead and train crew members, providing guidance and support when assistance is needed.
• Work hands-on with crews when necessary to maintain productivity and meet project deadlines.
• Make informed decisions and resolve issues based on changing jobsite conditions.
• Start up new jobsites and establish an organized, safe, and efficient work environment.
• Coordinate onsite activities with project managers, subcontractors, and other members of the construction team.
• Develop and maintain short-term schedules to keep projects on track.
• Monitor daily progress and identify potential delays or obstacles.
• Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and onsite activities to support project schedules.
• Communicate project updates, challenges, and potential solutions to the project management team.
• Coordinate subcontractors and other trades as needed to maintain workflow and minimize disruptions.
• Monitor jobsite quality and ensure work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and company standards.
• Identify, document, and manage punch list items through completion.
• Conduct regular jobsite inspections to identify quality concerns or potential issues.
• Ensure jobsites remain clean, organized, and ready for ongoing work and inspections.
• Promote and maintain a safe work environment for all employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and project-specific safety procedures.
• Conduct or participate in regular safety meetings and jobsite inspections.
• Address unsafe conditions and practices promptly.
