Job summary

ChristianaCare is seeking a senior supervisor for Health Information Management Services (HIMS) coding data quality and coder education. You will oversee accuracy, onboarding, audits, and education programs to ensure compliant, high-quality coded data across inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will lead a team of coders and coordinate with CDI, Patient Financial Services, and other departments to drive coding standards and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in HIM or healthcare related field, required.
• Bachelor’s degree in HIM or healthcare related field, preferred.
• One or two years of leadership experience, required.
• AHIMA CCS certification, required; RHIA/RHIT preferred.
• Five years coding education experience in acute care environment, required.
• Proficiency with inpatient and outpatient record types and encoding principles.

Responsibilities

• Supervise coding data accuracy and coder education across inpatient and outpatient coding.
• Monitor coding accuracy, productivity, staffing, and workload to meet month-end goals.
• Perform and oversee audits, pre-bill edits, and responses to audit requests.
• Coordinate coder onboarding, education, and retraining initiatives.
• Collaborate with CDI specialists, PFS, and other departments to address issues.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and escalate complex coding problems.
• Coordinate orientation for new coders and coding contractors.
• Track metrics and reporting to support program oversight.
• Maintain documentation for training completion and procedures.
