Job summary

Dept Behavioral Health/Develop in Virginia is seeking a Lead CNA for agency operations at the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute. The role involves experienced mental health care, leadership of CNAs and PCTs, and collaboration with RNs to support patient care on inpatient units.

The Lead CNA provides mentorship, oversees unit routines, and helps ensure a safe, therapeutic environment while following state regulations and clinical directions.

Qualifications

• Maintain CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) certification in good standing with the VA State Board of Nursing.
• Experience in psychiatric/healthcare facility settings preferred.
• Driver’s license in good standing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic quality patient care under the direction of nursing staff as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Assist with feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, and moving patients; change linens as needed.
• Serve as a lead mentor/preceptor for CNAs and PCTs; provide leadership and role modeling.
• Maintain safety and therapeutic environment for patients on multiple units; observe and report patient status.
• Communicate relevant ward/staff/shift issues to the Nurse Coordinator and Head Nurse.
