Job summary

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services is seeking a CNA for 1st shift at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Danville, VA. The role focuses on ADLs, patient support, and safety, with emphasis on de-escalation and therapeutic interactions.

Candidates must have an active Virginia CNA license, basic computer skills for EHR documentation, and a valid driver's license. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus; weekend and holiday shifts include a $3/hour differential.

Qualifications

• Virginia Nurse Aide license in good standing.
• Basic computer skills for documentation in EHR.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with patients to achieve therapeutic goals through ADLs and daily living activities.
• Attend to patients’ problems and concerns, encourage participation in activities, and intervene in behavioral crises.
• Promote awareness and coping skills; apply least restrictive interventions per hospital policy when needed.
• Monitor and report changes in patients’ medical and psychiatric status.
• Assist during 1st shift (7:00–7:30) and other shifts as required, including weekend holidays with differential pay.
