Job summary

Northern Trust seeks a Sr Lead Cloud Security Engineer to drive security across cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) with a focus on Policy as Code and Infrastructure as Code. You will mentor engineers, shape security patterns, and partner with developers to embed secure practices in CI/CD and cloud architectures.

You will implement CSPM tooling (Wiz, Defender for Cloud), develop PaC/IaC with Terraform, conduct assessments, respond to incidents, and contribute to a security roadmap.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in public cloud as engineer or developer.
• 5+ years in IT as engineer, developer or architect, cybersecurity preferred.
• Strong IaC with Terraform and Python automation.
• Git-based CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, Packages).
• Deep cloud security knowledge and secure development integration.
• Experience with cloud infra and architecture (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• PAM/identity systems knowledge (Azure Entra, Okta, Ping) a plus.
• Hands-on with testing tools and secure coding practices.
• Clear written and verbal communication for cross-functional teams.
• Certs such as Azure Security Engineer, AWS Security Specialty, CISSP/CCSP desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and support security measures for cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
• Develop PaC and IaC through Terraform, aligning with CIS and NIST 800-53.
• Use CSPM tools like Wiz and Defender for Cloud to monitor and enforce controls.
• Collaborate with security champions across business units for security needs.
• Contribute to the cloud security roadmap and best practices.
• Conduct regular security assessments and audits of cloud configurations.
• Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis and implement fixes.
• Mentor junior team members.
