Job summary

Voyager Technologies, Mojave/Edwards, CA invites a Chief Engineer for VTVL systems. You will own the vehicle's architecture, lead multidisciplinary teams, and ensure design aligns with budget and schedule.

You will guide design from concept through qualification, manage risk, margins, and interfaces, and partner with manufacturing, test, and operations to deliver mission-capable systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering, or related field with 15 years of engineering experience.
• Experience as technical lead of a major component or vehicle for a complex spacecraft, launch vehicle, aircraft, or safety-critical system.
• Experience adjudicating complex technical trade-offs and leading or participating in Engineering Review Boards.
• Deep understanding of managing system architecture, requirements, and technical risk.
• Ability to translate customer needs and CONOPS into engineering architecture and detailed design.

Responsibilities

• Own the vehicle's technical architecture, design philosophy, requirements, interfaces, margins, and performance allocations; ensure subsystems integrate into a safe, mission-capable vehicle.
• Serve as the program's senior technical authority; provide independent judgment on major design decisions, waivers, risks, and readiness; resolve cross-functional engineering disagreements.
• Lead vehicle-level design and development from concept through qualification, integrated/flight test, and deployment.
• Own vehicle performance and technical margins (mass, CG, propellant, delta-V, thrust-to-weight, margins, power, comms, control).
• Own technical risk identification and retirement; drive early testing of high-risk technologies and failure modes.
• Define development, qualification, and flight-test approach; ensure test program retires risk, not just demonstrates nominal performance.
• Work with Chief Engineer of Lunar Systems to set design standards and engineering rigor; tailor to risk posture.
• Partner with manufacturing, test, and operations to ensure design is manufacturable, testable, and operable.
