Job summary

Lightship in Colorado is seeking a Staff Chassis Systems Design Engineer to own the design, development, and validation of vehicle chassis structures from concept to production.

You will lead CAD work, GD&T, load-path analysis, and supplier collaboration to deliver reliable, manufacturable chassis components for our all-electric trailers.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related; MS preferred.
• 8+ years of mechanical or structural design experience in automotive or related industries.
• Experience developing mechanical systems from concept to production release.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop vehicle chassis systems and components from concept through production.
• Translate requirements into detailed designs meeting strength, stiffness, durability, mass, packaging, serviceability, cost, and manufacturability targets.
• Define load paths, perform static loading, stress, fatigue, and bolted-joint analysis.
• Create interfaces, tolerances, GD&T, and packaging requirements; apply ASME Y14.5.
• Produce and maintain production-quality 3D CAD drawings and specs.
• Select materials and processes for manufacturability and performance.
• Lead or support design verification and validation plans and analyses.
• Support prototype and production builds and resolve fit/assembly issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers for successful integration.
