Job summary

The Lead Certified Veterinary Technician at Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. provides excellent veterinary care to our full-service hospital patients and outstanding customer service to their owners.

This role sets the tone with the technical and client-support partners in the hospital, and helps foster cohesion and motivation within the team. Responsibilities include assisting doctors with exams, surgeries, dentistry, anesthesia, and monitoring; recording patient data in EMRs; training new staff;

Qualifications

• CVT certification (Illinois preferred).
• At least 1 year of veterinary practice experience.
• Strong leadership and supervision capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and professional demeanor; able to handle stressful situations.
• Telephone and computer skills.
• Team player willing to learn and adapt.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, obtain weight and vital signs, and record in EMR; collect patient histories and assist with exams.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, collect lab samples, and dispense medications.
• Monitor telephone lines, schedule appointments, provide client education, and relay results.
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist with anesthesia; monitor during anesthesia and recovery.
• Conduct in-hospital treatments including IV fluids and medications; maintain patient care and environment.
• Train new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital clean and organized; manage routine maintenance and inventory tasks.
• Oversee hospital operations and supervise paraprofessional staff.
• Participate in training and knowledge dissemination as needed.
