GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, focusing on performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, training, and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chats, requiring a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging guests in our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing the following duties and responsibilities, along with other assigned projects:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrinkage.
  • Ensure exceptional guest service by creating a friendly environment, greeting, engaging, personalizing service, and recommending products/services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver outstanding guest experiences and meet sales targets.
  • Maintain the replenishment, organization, and presentation of cashwrap displays and supplies.
  • Maintain prompt attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chats and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Promote and explain the guest loyalty program and Ulta Beauty app, fostering excitement and accountability for loyalty and credit goals.
  • Train new cashiers and cross-train associates in cashiering.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
  • Ensure cashier accountability and follow Ulta Beauty’s systems and prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing training for professional development and sales growth.
  • Collaborate with store teams to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control.
  • Perform register opening and closing functions as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards throughout the store.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to operational standards.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Proven delegation, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and basic technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Flexibility and good judgment under pressure.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 or older to hold the Lead Cashier role.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 25 lbs., and reaching.
