GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence peers. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, and associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards with an emphasis on cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register opening/closing, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat in/outs. A passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging every guest on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle is essential, as is contributing positively to goal achievement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance

• Contribute to achieving store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrinkage.
• Provide exceptional service by greeting and engaging guests, personalizing service, and recommending products/services.
• Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
• Support makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance guest experience and drive sales.
• Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver outstanding guest experiences and meet sales targets.
• Maintain replenishment, organization, and readiness of all cashwrap displays and supplies.
• Ensure prompt and regular attendance.

People

• Support an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
• Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests and team members.
• Train new cashiers and cross-train other associates.
• Lead peers to achieve productivity and performance goals.
• Ensure personalized experiences and adherence to Ulta Beauty’s systems.
• Participate in ongoing training for professional development.
• Collaborate with store teams to grow the business.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
• Adhere to dress code.
• Complete all transactions and control cash/media according to policies.
• Perform register opening/closing as directed.
• Maintain cleanliness and store standards throughout the store.
• Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to safety, inventory, and loss prevention standards.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High school diploma preferred.

Experience

• 2+ years relevant experience or equivalent education and work experience preferred.
• Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
• Passion for guest service and sales.
• Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
• Proven sales achievement and training experience.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be 18+ years old to hold the Lead Cashier role.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Continuous object manipulation during shifts.
