GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. The LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence among peers. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, focusing on performance (sales, guest experience, loyalty), people (guest service, training, development), and process (operating procedures and compliance). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs, with a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging guests in our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to store goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing the following duties and responsibilities:

Performance

  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging guests, personalizing service, and recommending products/services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Pair guests with associates for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demos to enhance sales and guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an exceptional guest experience while achieving sales goals.
  • Maintain replenishment, organization, and cleanliness of all cashwrap displays and supplies for guest readiness.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.

People

  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests and team members.
  • Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve productivity and performance goals.
  • Drive cashier accountability for delivering a personalized Ulta Beauty experience.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance professional development and sales performance.
  • Collaborate with store teams to grow the business.

Process

  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control, according to company policies.
  • Perform register open/close functions as directed.
  • Maintain store standards and cleanliness throughout the store.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards and safety protocols.
  • Execute other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multitask, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Ability to build customer relationships and work under pressure.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older to hold the Lead Cashier role.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Mobility and physical activity throughout the store.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 25 lbs., and reaching.
