GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This position involves collaborating, leading, and influencing peers, driving loyalty results—including credit—by focusing on performance, people, and process. The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chats, and is passionate about guest experience, process excellence, and delivering results by engaging guests in the Loyalty Life Cycle to meet store goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance

• Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
• Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by greeting, engaging, personalizing service, and recommending products or services.
• Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
• Support guest services like makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demos to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an exceptional guest experience while achieving sales targets.
• Maintain replenishment, organization, and readiness of all cashwrap displays and supplies.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
• Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate inspections.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to achieve store goals.
• Train new cashiers and cross-train associates.
• Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
• Drive cashier accountability and follow Ulta’s systems and prompts.
• Participate in ongoing training to develop professionally and drive sales.
• Collaborate across the store to support business growth.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Adhere to dress code.
• Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control.
• Perform register opening and closing as directed.
• Maintain store cleanliness and standards throughout the store.
• Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to operational procedures.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High school diploma preferred.

Experience

• 2 years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
• Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
• Passion for guest service and sales.
• Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
• History of exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be 18 years or older to hold the Lead Cashier role.

• Frequent bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs.), and reaching.
