GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence peers. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through performance (sales, guest experience, loyalty), people (guest service, associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs, requiring a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging guests on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC champions Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, demonstrating them consistently through the following duties and responsibilities (as well as all other assigned projects/duties):

Performance

• Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
• Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging guests, personalizing service, and recommending products/services.
• Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
• Pair guests with associates for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience while achieving sales goals.
• Maintain replenishment, organization, and cleanliness of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and fixtures.
• Ensure prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Support an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
• Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, and motivate others to do the same.
• Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
• Engage and influence peers to achieve productivity and performance goals.
• Drive cashier accountability and follow Ulta Beauty’s systems and prompts.
• Participate in ongoing training for professional development and sales performance.
• Collaborate with store management and staff to grow the business.

Process

• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Adhere to the dress code.
• Complete transactions accurately, including returns and media control, according to policies.
• Perform register open/close functions as directed.
• Maintain store standards and cleanliness throughout the store.
• Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards and safety procedures.
• Execute other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High school diploma preferred.

Experience

• 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and work experience preferred.
• Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
• Passion for guest service and sales.
• Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
• Proven sales achievement and training experience.

Skills

• Proficient with POS systems and Apple devices.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Ability to build customer relationships and work under pressure.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be 18 or older.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Mobility throughout the store, including bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Continuous object manipulation during shift.
