Job summary

Valor Contracting in the Upper Midwest is seeking a Lead Carpenter to lead field carpentry on a large datacenter project near Bismarck, ND. This on-site role mentors general laborers, partners with the Superintendent to set daily priorities, and ensures work is completed safely and to a high standard.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of carpentry or construction experience, including rough carpentry, door installation, and general site work.
• Experience installing hollow metal frames, doors, and hardware preferred.
• Previous experience leading or mentoring general laborers or small crews required.
• Experience on large commercial or industrial sites (data center, manufacturing, energy, or similar) preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, details, measurements, and specifications.
• Self-starter who can see what needs to be done and get it done with limited direction.
• Strong knowledge of construction site safety practices and proper use of PPE. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment.
• Experience operating telehandlers, forklifts, skid steers, aerial lifts, or similar construction equipment preferred.
• Strong team leadership and communication skills, with the ability to give clear direction and keep a crew productive.
• Ability to balance hands-on production responsibilities with leadership and coordination responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, direct, and mentor general laborers on daily assignments based on priorities set by the Superintendent.
• Plan and organize the crew's daily work to support project schedules and productivity goals.
• Teach proper construction techniques, tool and equipment use, and safe work practices through hands-on training.
• Support and mentor less-experienced field team members.
• Coordinate with the Superintendent regarding manpower, materials, equipment, and upcoming work needs.
• Build a positive, accountable team culture and lead by example through professionalism, dependability, and productivity.
• Escalate project concerns, conflicts, safety issues, or schedule risks to field leadership when appropriate.
