Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM seeks a Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist to transform customer concepts into detailed product definitions for national security. You will create 3D models and drawings, define products, and collaborate with CAD Designers, Product Design Engineers, and R&D Mechanical Engineers.

Onsite work is required. A DOE Q security clearance is required; an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 3 years of relevant CAD

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience using CAD software for complex 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing generation and design solutions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Innovate and Create: design, modify and evaluate detailed complex components and system definitions.
• Bring Concepts to Life: design intricate three‑dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems.
• Define Products: transform customer concepts into detailed specifications and present designs.
• Collaborate and Integrate: work closely with CAD Designers, Product Design Engineers, and R&D Mechanical Engineers to integrate defined requirements.
• Lead: lead teams in the design of three‑dimensional models and detailed drawings.
• Master CAD Technology: harness 3D CAD software to develop mechanical designs, perform mass property calculations and tolerance analyses.
• Adapt to Evolving Requirements: refine designs with R&D Engineers.
• Analyze and Optimize: analyze product performance data to drive continuous improvement.
